Hi

I'm hoping to get some help in getting rid of a virus thats infected my computer.

Im not sure what type of virus it is but the symptoms are - pop ups ALL the time and sometimes they wont go down when i click X or just come straight back up again. The computers been running really slowly and the tool bar at the bottom of the screen keeps on disappering.

Is there a download anyone could recommend that would get rid of this? Or what can i do to get rid of it?

Any help is very much appreciated.

I always had good luck with Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/), I recommend it highly.
Of course there is always Spybot search and destroy and Adaware, just do a google search for those.

all of pauls suggestions above are good ones... i particularly like the adaware free version (by lavasoft). http://lavasoft.com/

good news is this probably isn't an actual virus but malware poping this stupid things up constantly. also go into your add/remove programs and look for anything really weird you haven't seen before and uninstall it.

...feel free to post back with any more info, probs, or questions while you're working through this

and lets not forget a great "weclome"...we're very glad to have you here.

Try Spybot, it's "Search & Destroy" can take anything up to an hour to find the items, [but you can of course leave it running in the background] I'm always amazed at how many it finds, I run it once a month, & I strongly recommend it!:)

Yeah the log will be helpful, Hijackthis is a really helpful program.

Also, don't do this now, but if we can't find anything in the log then try these programs:

Adaware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Doctor
Webroot Spy Sweeper

I trust you also have an up-to-date antivirus installed and running?

Hi JDHale, i would suggest you to try AVG or AVAST, they offer various versions of anti-virus softwares. Or else you can try McAfee and Kapersky anti-virus softwares. With this software you would be able to remove your virus from your pc and it would detect you any virus immediately as it interfere within your system. You can also check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_antivirus_software where you can find a list of other softwares that you can use :)

If a computer has virus infected, many people will use antivirus software to kill the virus, but if antivirus software can not solve the problem, many people do not know how to do. The information age brings us convenience, and also gives us a lot of problems. If you really feel very worried, the simplest way is to restall your computer.

The information age brings us convenience, and also gives us a lot of problems. If you really feel very worried, the simplest way is to restall your computer.if you are going to reinstall everything on the computer, the only way to ensure you get the virus is to reformat the actual hard drive first.... but then you must also perform "fdisk /mbr" to flush the master boot record as well. many virus's will hide themselves in the master boot record and come right back after the drive is reformatted and new OS installed.

...actually, IMHO it is always good to just do the fdisk /mbr thing any time you format a hard drive just as precaution. the command executes immediately... no waiting for process.
